What is the difference between gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy?

Postby Damien » Tue Jul 19, 2016 9:22 pm

For me the best way to have a child is to use a surrogacy program. I've heard that there are can be gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. I've asked about the difference specialists and they explained it to me. But I must admit that I haven't understood all the things. So, can you explain in simple words what is the difference?

It is easier then you think. Traditional surrogate is a biological mother of a child. Her own egg is artificially inseminated by your or donor sperm. A gestational surrogate mother is not a biological mother. She carries a baby that was conceived using the egg of the intended mother, or an egg donor, and sperm from the intended father or a sperm donor. In this case you can choose the egg donor for the conceiving. A gestational surrogacy means that your baby will not have any genetic connections to the surrogate mother. It is up to you to decide which way is better for you. If you think that the surrogate mother has not so perfect genes you can find an egg donor.

you would be surprised how simple it is. i also did not know anything about it but now it is even funny for me how could i not get earlier. traditional surrogacy is when the egg of the mother is inseminated but your sperm. so it means that she is a biological mother of the child. gestational surrogacy is when the surrogate mother is not the biological mother of the child. this way often choose straight couples when both parents father and mother want to be biological parents. egg is taken from the mother and sperm from the father.

Gestational Surrogacy is when a women also referred to as a surrogate mother carries a baby for an intended couple or individual. It means that there won't be any genetic link of a surrogate mother and you baby. In the process of traditional surrogacy mother's egg is used. Also sperm of the intended father or donor is needed. If you want to have a genetic link with your baby it is better to choose traditional surrogacy. But you should know that gestational surrogacy provides a more secure experience for all involved. The baby does not have any biological relation to the surrogate. Hence the surrogate mother is not likely to have that much a strong emotional bond with the child as in the case of traditional surrogacy.

The easiest answer is that traditional surrogacy means that surrogate mother will be a biological mother of a child. Gestational surrogacy means that you should also find the egg donor and surrogate mother will not be a biological mother. I think gestational surrogacy is a better way. You will have any problems with surrogate mother in future. She will have no parental rights.

there are also other terms for these two ways of surrogate pregnancy - straight and host surrogacy. It was already written above, but I will repeat. Straight (traditional) surrogacy - is the type of surrogacy, when the woman who will deliver the baby is the biological mother herself. In that case the technical part of the insemination process is more simple. In the case of the host surrogacy - the biological mother (the egg donor) is someone else. The insemination of the egg is made artificially in vitro - and then the embryo is being implanted into the uterus of the surrogate mother. It is a bit more complicated process. Though in the last years people prefer to use the latter, due to many reasons.

Most of the agencies these days use the gestational surrogacy. It was proven to be more safe way for the clients, and that provides additional flexibility for the clients from other countries. On the other hand I am thinking... God, what did we come to? Today it takes three people to make a baby instead of two, and more then that - these three people can even not be acquainted with each other. I know I do not sound like a person who is gay, but nevertheless.. anyway. Gestational surrogacy is preferable. For the traditional one you have to be really sure in the personality and the genetics of the surrogate mother. And in case of there gestational surrogacy you can simply take the genetics from one person - and the personality from another. Quite convenient)

I already wrote about this in my previous post) There is an internet site - gaysurrogacyinfo.com. It contains all the general information about all the surrogacy process, about different variants of the surrogacy. What is more important, it contains the information about the laws, concerning gay parenting and gay surrogacy in different countries. It is written on that site, that their law database is being updated constantly, to avoid the situation that happened in Mexico this winter. I found that site to be really useful to me, and I do advice you to visit it as well, if you need to get some general information. Though, I think you got all the answers you need on this forum already)

I think that everyone already knows the answer to that, so I am not going to repeat it) Anyway, traditional surrogacy is passing away. In the agency that I am currently using they told me that the traditional surrogacy is almost not used in the modern agencies, and that it will be forgotten in several years. It is much less effective. Besides, as you may have noticed, the technologies of genetic engineering are developing very fast. And only the gestational surrogacy gives the opportunity to edit the genome of the embryo. that will allow your kid to avoid many genetic anomalies, such as physical and mental diseases.

as far as i know or understand it/ the traditional surrogasy is when you choose a mother for your kid, and you are using her egg for a kid. and gestation way - is more expencive, cause the woman is like.. well a container for somebody's egg cell and you sperm... Something like this   I am for traditional really, it is easier for understanding and so on)
