She stressed that "traditionally, the Hijra had polyspastny status, they were invited to sing, dance and bless the newly married or a newborn at home celebrations."
"Once they earn their living taking advantage of the General belief that the blessing of a Hijra is able to bring to the home and family, prosperity and numerous offspring.

Over time, however, everything changed. "Hijra has lost its beloved status in the eyes of society... they are discriminated against and despised almost everywhere. Now they're just begging at shops, at bus stops and railway stations or work part time prostitution".

According to the photographer of Magnum Photos Susan Meiselas, the project sharii Charmin "opens our eyes to life is extremely stigmatized minority... pays homage to the extraordinary qualities of these people, showing how they are quietly proud of their uniqueness."
Charmin hopes that her work will help Hijra "to find an opportunity to breathe freely in a society that condemns them to isolation".

But really the rest of Russian gays is that in the Runet. After all, the Internet gives Russian gays what they still lack in everyday life-a sense of security. If the subscription to the "blue" magazine actually means the disclosure of his homosexuality, the visitors remain anonymous.

However, so far none of the main political parties in Russia has announced a policy of cooperation with the gay movement. And it is clear. In Russia, the connection with the gay movement is only compromising the policy that has repeatedly tried to use "dirty technology". But in a whole, perhaps, already is near that day, when we will see and on our the streets kissing gay - and utterly quietly will walk past.

In many ways, these are problems that do not seem to us too relevant or not fully understandable. To better understand them means to understand better your own future. And start here with the problem, perhaps, most important, very much of what was discussed - the problem of same-sex families. Radical extremists who claim that a strong Union of two people - nothing more than a relic of the past - has always been in the minority-although their position can be found to share common sense (why, for example, it is two? but if someone is good three?).

So the question is not whether gay men need such a relationship, few doubt it. It is about how to ensure that such unions enjoy the best possible living conditions. The solution to this issue is largely based on the formalization of the same-sex family.

Today, gays and lesbians from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland can acquire this status - in these countries, the system of the so-called "registered partnership" operates at the national level. A registered partnership is not really a marriage. These partners have slightly less rights than the" real " spouses - especially with regard to adoption and guardianship. But the fight for their rights - it is gradual, rarely get all at once.

For example, in the canadian province of British Columbia first appeared register the partnership without the right to adoption and foster care. And then, when citizens got used to this system a little bit, the provincial attorney protested to the legislature: why don't they allow same-sex couples guardianship? This is contrary to the principle of equal rights! Legislators thought, Yes and agreed. Now the Prosecutor is quietly preparing documents in order to equalize the rights in the field of adoption...

Why gay all this legal rigmarole? It turns out, might be useful. Say, lived two men of about twenty years in the same house; then one of them died - and he was a tenant! Now the landlord evicts the remaining one, he reached the Supreme Court (the case was in England) - and what will you do? Technically he is a nobody. The Supreme Court also ruled that nothing could be done, and Parliament should immediately adopt a new law so that a person could not be thrown out of the house only because, ultimately, he was gay.
