Postby Adam Levine » Thu Jun 23, 2016 3:15 pm

The health benefits of olive oil are unrivaled, and research reveals more benefits nearly every day. In fact, we are only just beginning to understand the countless ways olive oil can improve our health, and our lives. Olive oil is the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet — an essential nutritional mainstay for the world’s longest-living cultures. Why do i like it? Despite the drama surrounding the use of fats and oils, these things are an essential part of a balanced eating plan. The key is to choose your fats wisely. Olive oil is one of the healthiest types of fat around. The monounsaturated fat in olive oil has been shown to control LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol. This can potentially lower your risk of heart disease. And do you use it?

Pain relief.Extra virgin olive oil contains a substance called oleocanthal, which has anti-inflammatory agents, meaning olive oil is like a natural Ibuprofen. Research increasingly suggests inflammation impacts a number of chronic diseases, so olive oil’s anti-inflammatory properties grow more compelling all the time. Skin saviour.Extra virgin olive oil helps with anti-ageing, osteoporosis and skin damage. “One that’s proven is that it adds a protective coating on the skin, both through consumption and application,” says Ravetti. Maybe you know all that already...but...just in case..

Good housekeeping lists several surprising uses of olive oil, including for healthy skin. Olive oil has been used for centuries for moisturizing skin, partly because of its linoleic acid. You can consume the oil, apply it directly on skin, or add a bit to a warm bath for a good soak.Olive oil can also be used as a safe, natural lubricant for a close shave and as a soothing aftershave (rub on an extra teaspoon of it after you rinse off). It can also help soothe chapped lips – make a balm by mixing olive oil and melted beeswax in a 1:1 ratio, and add an essential oil for fragrance. According to the website AltUse.com, it can also moisturize your cuticles when you apply it directly before applying polish or buffing nails.

Why should not yo use olive oil...Rancidity – remember that rancid olive oil smells like crayons, tastes like rancid nuts, and has a greasy mouth feel. So beware of leaving your bottle of olive oil right on the counter, opening and closing it multiple times in a week. Any time it is exposed to air and/or light, it oxidizes. The chlorophyll in extra virgin olive oil speeds up the oxidation of the unsaturated fats.Treat olive oil as you would other sensitive omega-3 oils by keeping it in a cool and dark place, purchasing smaller bottles instead of larger ones to ensure freshness, and immediately replacing the cap after each pour.

Olive oil was used in medicines and different ointments. It was also used for nourishment and as an overall healing agent. Today, Italy, Spain, and Greece produce olive oil, and California, with its Mediterranean climate, is fast becoming a leading producer. Like wine, many different varieties of olive oil have their own unique characteristics taken from the land and weather conditions. Organic olive oil is a monounsaturated fat, and is considered a good fatty acid (high density lipoproteins, HDLs) protect against bad cholesterol, or low density lipoproteins (LDLs). Delicious organic olive oil contains all the vitamins and nutrients of the olive fruit, and if you get a premium organic olive oil, it will taste better and have a full aroma.

First of all you should know types of olive oil. Regular or pure olive oil.Regular or pure olive oil has been chemically refined and filtered to neutralize both undesirable strong tastes and acid content. This olive oil is of lower quality and usually the least expensive.Virgin.Virgin means the olive oil was produced without any chemical additives, so it contains no refined oil. It has an acidity that’s less than 2%, so it tastes better. Virgin refers to the fact that the olive oil has been less handled or manipulated during processing.Extra Virgin.Extra virgin olive oil comes from the first press only and is the highest quality olive oil with perfect flavor, aroma, and balanced acidity. This olive oil is less processed than Virgin olive oil and is very delicate in flavor. It’s perfect for salad dressings, marinades, and for dipping bread.
